Women’s Imaging Centre calendar sales to support breast cancer services at Miles Perret
LAFAYETTE, La. – It was a labor of love. It was made with hope to empower Acadiana families affected by breast cancer.
Oct. 1 marks the first day of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. It also marks the day sales begin for the inaugural Real Men Wear Pink calendar produced by Women’s & Children’s Hospital’s Elaine M. Junca Women’s Imaging Centre. The 15-month calendar, which spans October 2012 to December 2013, sells for $20 with proceeds going to support breast cancer services at Miles Perret Cancer Services.
Models for the calendar include well-known community figures from various walks of life, including UL Lafayette Football Head Coach Mark Hudspeth, City-Parish President Joey Durel, Cajun/Zydeco musician Geno Delafose, the Lafayette Fire Department and the Lafayette Police Department S.W.A.T. team.
“About 230,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year in the United States. We want women, men and families affected by this diagnosis to know that they are not alone,” said Mary Reed, Women’s Imaging Centre Director.
“We approached 15 individuals or groups to be featured in the calendar. Every single one said yes without hesitation,” Reed continued. “We were honored by the generosity and outpouring of support from everyone involved. Breast cancer is something that affects many families here in Acadiana. Most of us can name a family member, friend or neighbor who has been affected at some point in their lives.”
Calendars are available at the Elaine M. Junca Women’s Imaging Centre, Miles Perret Cancer Services or may be ordered online at Womens-Childrens.com or WomensImagingCentre.com.
An estimated 1 in 8 women in the United States will develop some form of invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime, according to BreastCancer.org. The journey begins with feeling something abnormal during a monthly self exam, an irregularity in blood work or a suspicious mass revealed in a routine mammogram.
Elaine M. Junca Women’s Imaging Centre knows the journey intimately. Elaine M. Junca is not just a name on the sign out front. Elaine was a beloved colleague and friend who lost her battle with breast cancer at age 46.
The Elaine M. Junca Women’s Imaging Centre continues the fight in her name, bringing award-winning, quality breast cancer detection and treatment services to the women of Acadiana in a spa-like atmosphere.
This full-service breast imaging center offers comprehensive services including digital mammography, the Aurora system for dedicated breast MRI and diagnostic ultrasound. It is one of the few centers of its kind in the state to offer these advanced diagnostic tools.
